Golden Retriever

Also known as the Goldie, Goldens, or Yellow Lab, a Golden Retriever is very strong and possesses some great athletic abilities. It has a peaceful and socializing attitude and has an affectionate nature which makes them very popular among humans.

Golden Retrievers carry themselves with pride and thus are considered to be confident dogs.

They are categorized into two groups according to their appearance: English and American. An English Golden Retriever is short and has a bigger bone structure with long and light-colored hair coat. An American Golden Retriever has longer limbs and resembles more to its original breed.

It has a life span of 10 - 13 years. The male dog has a height of 23 - 24 inches whereas a female is 21.5 - 22.5 inches in height. A male retriever weighs around 65 - 75 lbs. and a female weighs about 55 - 65 lbs. They have a litter size of 8 puppies.

This breed is, though, golden in color but there are a variety of shades of it ranging from light cream color to yellow to copper shades.

It adapts to all the environments very easily, but you need to take some time out to play with them. It is better to put up a fence around your yard to give your dog a space to play around.

It has two coats: outer coat and the undercoat. Outer coat is soft and feathery. The undercoat protects the dog against extreme weathers.

These dogs have wide muzzles and broad heads with brown expressive eyes and a black nose. Their bodies become muscular as they mature.
