Is it the Right Time to Get a Dog?

When thinking of bringing a new dog into your life it is important that you have room in your life for it. If you purchase a certain article of clothing that does not fit, you simply return it to the store or just give it away.

But making the decision of getting a dog is a whole different thing, so before you get one make sure to have the time to take care of it, give it attention, feed it and love it. I know when you look into those big brown puppy eyes it is impossible to walk away from it but make sure to look at your options first.

There are literally hundreds of dog breeds so finding the right one for you can be hard. After you do get a dog, they must have lots of physical care. Some of the most common necessities are shelter, coat care, water, good nutritious food, vitamins and medical treatment if needed.

So before you make the decision of purchasing a new dog i want you to ask your self these questions. Is it the right time to add a dog in my home?, am i ready to devote time to train this dog?, if i go away who is taking care of it? Or is my work schedule going to allow me to take care of it. What about is you are considering having a child? What about visitors or neighbors?.

As we all know children love to play with dogs, but they can also hug them too tight, fall on them or even drop them and injure them especially if its a small dog. Many times it's not the dog who gets injured, rough play with dogs can also lead the child to get injured or scratched.

If you do decide on having kids, maybe getting a dog can wait for a couple of years. Also keep in mind that dogs can get very expensive. Are you willing to spend an extra $1000 a year to buy food, get his shots, flea control or get his grooming done?
