Keeping Your Dog Safe in Your Dog Enclosure

If you are a conscientious dog lover then you know how important it is to keeping your pet safe at all times. A good quality dog enclosure is one way of doing this and it can be used both indoors and out.

If you keep you dog outdoors and prior to installing your dog enclosure you need to be aware of the potential dangers that could cause your pet harm.

Perimeter Fencing

The first thing you need to do is go around the perimeter fence and make sure that is good condition. If you have any rotting wood or gaps in your fence these will need to be repaired as it will not take your dog long to figure out how to get through these. dog.

Also make sure that any dog enclosure is high enough and if not it will need to be extended. A good and inexpensive way to do this is to add some trellis to the top of the fence.

Similarly check the footing of the fencing as dogs will also find a way to dig underneath. Laying a course of bricks or digging in some chicken wire is a good way to combat this.

Keep Any substances out of reach

Consider storing away any potentially harmful substances out of reach including fertilisers. If in doubt store it. Also the same should apply to any garden tools or sharp objects

Plants can also be harmful to dogs

Dogs love to eat plants and many plants can be harmful and it is difficult to know what these may be. Try and identify what plants you have and then go online and check to see if they are pet friendly. If in doubt find ways to cordon off the areas to stop your pet getting access.

A Purpose made Dog Enclosure may be the answer

If your back yard is too big or you have too many hazards consider purchasing a purpose made dog enclosure or dog exercise pen. These should be sturdy enough to keep your pet contained in a designated area
