Steps For Dachshund Training

Even though you see the dachshund as a very cute and attractive dog, they are actually very difficult to train. These dog breeds usually have that "attitude". They are very intelligent and independent which makes them set their own rules if they want to. Owners of dachshunds need to be committed to their responsibilities when they want to adopt one. This can be easy if you know the correct steps for Dachshund training. That way, you will be able to know how to train them well.

Below are the steps for Dachshund training:

1. Begin you training with a plan. Be specific with the behaviors that you would like to see from your dachshund. You can make a list of these and then teach these skills one at a time. A good planning is needed because the dog will just get confused with you if you try to teach him lots of things in a single training.

2. Ready your treats. Whenever it is time for training, make sure that you have treats in your pocket that is ready. Dachshunds' favorite treat is the dried liver. They usually have packs of these in the pet stores. You can get a bag of this and give it to your pet when you start the training session.

3. Just like humans, these dogs also need to warm up before the training. Exercise your dog first before you start. Try giving him a walk in the ark or maybe play with him for a few minutes. If the dog is tired enough, he will be interested in obeying your commands because of the treats. A good time for this is before they eat their meals. They are hungry at this moment.

4. Break your training into small sessions. When you are starting to train your dog, make sure that you teach him the skills one at a time. You cannot just teach him all at once. Try a good behavior each day. Introduce him different skills after the other with different schedule.

5. Give the reward as soon as the dog obeys you. That will motivate him to follow your commands more. You will see his excitement in your first treat. Food is a very good motivator for the dachshunds.

6. You can eventually stop giving treats after your dog has been trained well enough. After they learn some skills, you can start to stop giving those treats and just command them without any reward.

7. Always praise your dog after each obeyed command. That will give him more motivation. It will feel that you like how he does his good behavior. The dog will then be motivated to obey some more.
